Interested in equipping your clients with energy-saving LED (light-emitting diode) lamps? You should be, and you should be their go-to LED expert.
The Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) has just released its Dimming LED Lamps white paper, to prep you on what you need to know in order to dim LEDs or put them on electronic lighting control systems.
The document covers available lamp types and their characteristics, different power sources (external or internal drivers), and performance—and was created by CEDIA’s Technology Council with the help of subject matter experts Amanda Beebe of Lutron, Aussie Kizirian of Interior Technologies, and Ken Byrd of Cree.
For example, did you know that:
- There are two different types of LED drivers: constant voltage and constant current types.
- One of the most important LED driver features to examine is the quality of the DC output voltage of the driver.
- New forward phase control dimmers have recently entered the market that have been specially designed to reduce or eliminate the problems seen with controlling LED loads on existing incandescent dimmers.
- Reverse phase control is best for capacitive loads such as LED drivers, though these types of controls are not as widely available in the marketplace.
The white paper is available through the CEDIA Marketplace at www.cedia.org/marketplace as well as on CEDIA Crosspoint at www.cediacrosspoint.com. The document is free of charge for CEDIA members and is priced at $9.99 for non-members.
